This video-based course is for anyone who works with children and young people and will support you to explore what Contextual Safeguarding is, how it works in practice, and how you can apply it to your own professional area of work.

You will learn about the societal responses to growing up that children and young people have and how these have changed in recent years along with the importance of cognitive development on adolescent safeguarding and the extra-familial risks that some children and young people experience.

You will also explore the ways in which adolescent safeguarding differs from traditional child protection/adult safeguarding and, therefore, the different approach it needs, and how Contextual Safeguarding approaches help to address adolescent risk outside the home.

This online learning module is for everyone in West Sussex who has contact with adults who work or volunteer with children and / or young people in the county. It will help you to know what to do when you have concerns about an adult’s behaviour towards children and young people. Adults are people aged 16 and over.

The Home Office has launched a free online training package dealing with Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) developed with Virtual College. This training will provide you with an overview of FGM and your responsibilities in FGM cases. It also contains information on how to prevent FGM and helps professionals support those who have been subjected to it.

The NSPCC offer online safeguarding training to help with the recruitment process of staff and volunteers in schools, academies or colleges. The training has been developed in line with the Department for Education’s ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ guidance.

The PREVENT strategy aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. While it remains rare for children and young people to become involved in terrorist activity, young people from an early age can be exposed to terrorist and extremist influences of prejudiced views. Channel is a key element of the PREVENT strategy. It is a multi-agency approach to protect people at risk from radicalisation.
